"THE BARNS OF EAST GRANBY" BOOK
By Betty Guinan and Ted Holly
The Barns of East Granby: Our Agricultural Heritage
The Society has published this history of East Granby's barns and the farmers who used them over the years. Authored by two longtime East Granby residents, Betty Guinan and Ted Holly, the book features 269 photos over 130 pages. The book will give the reader a street-by-street tour of the barns that were part of East Granby's once prosperous agricultural community. The text includes brief histories of local farms with descriptions of their barns and other outbuildings. Many of the buildings were altered over the years as agriculture changed from general husbandry to specialization and eventually to the demise of farming as it once was. Today, many barns are cluttered with old farm implements and other remnants from the past. Others have been converted to uses their former owners would never have envisioned. The book is available for purchase in person at the East Granby town clerk's office. It can also be purchased by mail from the Historical Society. The book costs $15, plus $4 for mailing.
